Nottingham Forest thought they had grabbed another late equalizer to earn a point against Aston Villa at the City Ground, but Tammy Abraham had other plans, scoring in added time to give Villa a 2-3 win.
Lewis Grabban scored in the 22-second minute when he ran on to a loose ball and beat an out of position Lovre Kalinic. Abraham scored a penalty shortly after the restart of the match in the second half. Conor Hourihane curled a free kick just inside the post to put Villa up 1-2. Diogo Gonçalves added some set piece magic of his own with a spot kick goal at 77 minutes to even the match.
However, Abraham lost his marker on the far post to receive a long pass from Birkir Bjarnason at 90+1 minutes and knocked in the winner.
“You can’t let a player of Bjarnason’s quality stand inside your own half like that and pick out a pass. End of.”
Forest’s next match is at the City Ground against Sunderland in the first round of the EFL Cup.
