Nottingham Forest made their case for a strong early start to the EFL Championship season with a 5-0 thumping of Red Bull Salzburg at the City Ground. Joe Lolley scored a brace, while Michael Dawson, João Carvalho, and Léo Bonatini scored single goals.
Salzburg registered only 4 shots, 3 on goal, to Forest’s 15, 10 on target. Forest repeatedly used a high press to force giveaways from Salzburg, and held the possession advantage 61 to 39 percent.
Forest next play Morecambe in a testimonial match for goalkeeper Barry Roche. Roche has spent the last 11 years at Morecambe in EFL League Two. He also spent 6 years at Forest from 1999-2005.
